VOV.VN - Germany has agreed to accept the newly issued Vietnamese passport with information about the place of birth of the holder added to the observation page of the passport, the German Embassy in Hanoi announced on August 15.

The US is still reviewing Vietnam’s new passport and has asked visa applicants to submit their birthplace information.

The Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been working with domestic ministries, agencies and foreign partners to facilitate travel of Vietnamese and foreign citizens, said Spokeswoman Le Thi Thu Hang.

Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Public Security recently met with the embassies of Germany, the Czech Republic and Spain and asked them to coordinate with Vietnam to tackle difficulties regarding granting visas in the new version of Vietnam’s passports.

VOV.VN - The Embassy of Finland in Hanoi announced on August 11 that it has decided to stop recognising the new-style Vietnamese passports due to the lack of information regarding the place of birth of the holder.

VOV.VN - The Ministry of Public Security accepts responsibility for the failure of the new passport model which has not been accepted by some countries, said Minister of Public Security To Lam on August 10 at the National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee's Q&A session held in Hanoi.

The Ministry of Public Security (MPS) is planning to add the “place of birth” to the new passport version to facilitate citizens’ seeking of visas to the Schengen countries.
