Vietjet receives first Boeing 737-8 from US$32 billion order
VOV.VN - Budget airline Vietjet on November 24 received Boeing 737-8 aircraft, the first of the 200 jets valued at US$32 billion ordered from Boeing, marking a major milestone in the airline’s fleet modernisation strategy.
The aircraft was delivered at Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok, Thailand, and is part of a batch of 50 planes that Vietjet Thailand will operate from now until 2028, aiming to meet growing travel demand and expand its network across the Asia-Pacific region.
Vietjet Thailand plans to operate the 737-8 on its first domestic route, Bangkok–Chiang Mai, followed by its first international flight from Bangkok to Cam Ranh in December 2025. In Vietnam, Vietjet will continue to operate its Airbus fleet.
The Boeing 737-8 features advanced aerodynamics and new-generation LEAP-1B engines compatible with Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), reducing CO₂ emissions by 15–20% and noise by up to 50% under ICAO standards. With a maximum range of 6,570 km, a spacious modern cabin, and larger luggage compartments, the aircraft offers passengers a comfortable and enjoyable flying experience.
Vietjet’s 200-aircraft order also supports bilateral trade between Vietnam and the United States. The modern fleet will enhance the airline’s international network, drive regional economic growth, and provide safe, high-quality travel experiences for millions of passengers worldwide.
