Vietnam hosts Asian Athletics Council Meeting for the first time
VOV.VN - The 105th Asian Athletics Council Meeting opened in Hanoi on November 24, marking the first time that Vietnam has been granted the right to host the event by the Asian Athletics Association (AAA).
In his opening speech, Dahlan Jumaan Al Hamad, President of the Asian Athletics Association stressed that the AAA’s member states would hold discussions to make decisions towards a new chapter for Asian athletics.
Many decisions will focus on developing continental athletics and supporting one another in areas such as training and coaching quality, he said.
Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet, Director of the Department of Physical Training and Sports expressed hope that the meeting would provide delegates with a platform to exchange insights, share practical experiences, and formulate strategic directions to strengthen Asian athletics and elevate its position on the international stage.
The meeting began with working sessions, where 19 AAA member states held closed-door discussions on the future development of athletics in Asia.
Nguyen Manh Hung, General Secretary of the Vietnam Athletics Federation represented the country to join those working sessions. The decisions of the meeting will be announced in press briefing later on the same day.
President Dahlan Jumaan Al Hamad also conveyed his best wishes to Southeast Asian athletics teams, including Vietnam, encouraging them to strive for top results at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 33) scheduled for December in Thailand.
