Tan Cang – Cai Mep Int’l Terminal surpasses 2 million TEUs for third time
VOV.VN - Tan Cang – Cai Mep International Terminal (TCIT), a member of Saigon Newport Corporation, reached a significant milestone on November 24 when it officially logged its 2,000,000th TEU of 2025, marking the third year the terminal has exceeded the 2-million-TEU threshold.
The landmark container, number FFAU6456618, carrying electronic components, was loaded onto the ONE GRUS vessel operating on the EC3 service route connecting Vietnam and the United States under the Premier alliance.
TCIT achieved this milestone 22 days earlier than in 2020 and a full month ahead of 2021, despite ongoing volatility in global maritime transport and economic conditions.
Achieving the milestone even earlier than in previous years underscores the terminal’s adaptability and operational efficiency amid global supply chain restructuring, fluctuating tariffs, rising operating costs, and heightened requirements for sustainable, green operations. It also signals positive momentum for Vietnam’s import–export activities.
TCIT currently operates 12 international service routes linking Vietnam with key ports in Asia, Europe, North America, and South America. The terminal can accommodate vessels of up to 173,724 DWT, while also handling Cambodian transshipment cargo via feeder ships and domestic cargo through an extensive barge and trucking network connecting ports and industrial zones.
With its current growth trajectory, TCIT expects its 2025 throughput to hit around 2.2 million TEUs, maintaining its position as Vietnam’s busiest deep-water container terminal and the country’s second-largest port by throughput, after Tan Cang – Cat Lai.
Truong Tan Loc, Chairman of TCIT’s Board of Members, said the terminal has not only sustained strong handling capacity but also expanded connections with inland container depots (ICDs) and destination ports, forming linked storage areas to ease yard congestion and speed up cargo clearance. He added that TCIT is promoting direct delivery with incentive policies and optimising transport routes to enhance the flexibility of supply chains for import–export enterprises.
Looking ahead to 2026, as Ho Chi Minh City and surrounding provinces advance plans to develop into a megacity with expanded transport, logistics, and port infrastructure, TCIT aims to reinforce its position as Vietnam’s leading deep-water container port. The terminal plans to deepen connections with the port–ICD–industrial park network while accelerating value-added logistics services, digital transformation, and green initiatives, contributing proactively to the national flow of goods in a new era of development.
