VOV.VN - Vietnam’s labour market witnessed positive signs of recovery in the first quarter of the year, reverting to pre-COVID levels, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).

Vietnam aims to send 125,000 labourers abroad to work under contracts in 2024, focusing on key traditional markets such as Japan, Taiwan (China) and the Republic of Korea (RoK), according to the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA).

Improving qualifications of guest workers and developing foreign labour markets that suit Vietnamese labourers' standards and skills have been considered as key tasks in 2024 in order to stepping up the sending of labourers to work abroad.

The monthly average income of Vietnamese labourers in 2023 reached VND7.1 million (over US$291) per person, up 6.9% compared to 2022, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).

VOV.VN - There are roughly 650,000 Vietnamese labourers working in 40 countries and territories around the world, according to estimated data from the Department of Overseas Labor Management under the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs.

Vietnam is speeding up negotiations with Hungary in a bid to sign an agreement on sending and receiving Vietnamese labourers in the European country – an emerging market drawing great interest from labourers.

A conference was held in Seoul on August 24 for 39 consultants and representatives of community groups in provinces and cities in the Republic of Korea (RoK) to update them with guidelines and policies of Vietnam and the RoK regarding rights and interest of Vietnamese labourers in the RoK.

A working delegation of the Vietnam Centre for Overseas Labour (Colab) met on January 29 with representatives from the Counseling Centre for Foreign Workers of the Republic of Korea (RoK)’s Ansan city to promote the implementation of support activities for Vietnamese labourers in the RoK.
