Vietnam secures two slots in AFC Champions League Two
VOV.VN - The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has confirmed that Vietnam will receive one direct slot and one playoff berth in the AFC Champions League Two for the 2026–2027 season, based on the V.League 1’s current ranking.

The league is ranked 14th in Asia and seventh in East Asia, which falls short of the threshold required for participation in the top-tier AFC Champions League Elite.
Under the AFC’s revamped competition structure, club participation is determined by national league rankings and divided into three tiers, namely AFC Champions League Elite, AFC Champions League Two, and AFC Challenge League.
Although Vietnamese clubs will not feature in the AFC Champions League Elite next season, the AFC Champions League Two presents an opportunity for V.League 1 teams to compete on the continental stage.
This absence from the top tier also serves as a chance for Vietnamese football to reassess its long-term strategy, focusing on youth development, infrastructure, and professional management in line with the AFC’s push for greater competitiveness and sustainability.
With continued investment and strategic planning, Vietnam could soon return to the continent’s top-tier competition in the seasons ahead.
