VOV.VN - The eighth Vietnam international traditional martial arts festival is set to get underway in the south-central province of Binh Dinh from August 2 to 5, to promote mutual understanding and solidarity among domestic and foreign athletes, and to introduce the unique features of Vietnamese traditional martial arts.

Nguyen Thi Hoai Nuong and Nguyen Hoang Du earned one gold for Vietnam in the women’s self-defence event of Vovinam (Vietnamese traditional martial arts) on May 8 afternoon at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 32).

Vovinam (Vietnamese traditional martial arts) has not been a permanent sport competed at the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games; however, the increasing number of competing countries in recent tournaments shows that it has been extensively welcomed.

President Vo Van Thuong attended a ceremony held in the southern province of Binh Duong on April 15 to mark the 85th founding anniversary of the Vietnamese Traditional Martial Arts (Vovinam).

The Vietnamese team won three gold and one bronze medals at the 6th Vietnamese traditional martial arts (Vovinam) World Championship, which ended on July 23 in Paris, France.

The establishment of a Vietnam Traditional Martial Arts Federation in Italy was announced at a workshop on this type of martial arts (Vocotruyen) held in the northern city of Piacenza on July 10.
