Thanh Toan bridge promotes green tourism in Hue with plastic-reducing initiative
VOV.VN - On May 10, the Hue City Department of Tourism, in collaboration with the “Hue – Plastic Smart City in Central Vietnam” project and the People's Committee of Thuy Thanh commune, officially launched a plastic-reducing tourist destination at the Thanh Toan Tile-Roofed Bridge.

The “Hue – Plastic Smart City in Central Vietnam” project has been funded by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Norway through WWF Vietnam in the central province of Thua Thien – Hue.
La Thi Thanh Luyen, a representative from the Department of Tourism, emphasized that the event represents a significant milestone in the city's sustainable tourism development. This initiative is the result of strong collaboration between local authorities, the community, tourism businesses, and WWF, with the goal of promoting Hue's tourism as heritage-driven, eco-friendly, and smart. The tourism sector will continue supporting community-based tourism leaders at the Thanh Toan site in reducing plastic waste, offering environmentally responsible services that attract visitors not only for their cultural value but also for their commitment to sustainability.
During the launch, five community-based tourism establishments at the Thanh Toan Tile-Roofed Bridge pledged to reduce plastic use and encouraged both locals and visitors to adopt practices such as using personal water containers, refilling bottles, minimizing plastic bags, and opting for eco-friendly materials like glass and stainless steel.

In the coming weeks, the Hue City Department of Tourism and the “Hue – Plastic Smart City in Central Vietnam” project will expand this initiative, launching additional plastic-reducing tourist destinations in Quang Loi commune, Quang Dien district, and Phu An commune, Phu Vang district.
The Thanh Toan Tile-Roofed Bridge is a key community-based tourism destination in Hue, preserving the essence of rural Vietnam with its 240-year-old wooden bridge, tiled roof, vibrant agricultural tool displays, and rustic village market. Set against the backdrop of serene countryside, this destination seamlessly blends traditional culture with community experiences, making it an ideal stop for visitors from both near and afar.
