Binh Dinh martial arts seek UNESCO honour
VOV.VN - The south-central province of Binh Dinh has approved a draft plan to complete a dossier of its Traditional Martial Arts and submit it to UNESCO for registration on the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The Binh Dinh Department of Culture and Sports is in charge of developing this dossier, while the Cultural Research Institute under the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences will give consultations. The dossier must be completed by December 2023.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2012 recognised Binh Dinh Traditional Martial Arts as national intangible cultural heritage of Vietnam. One year later the Binh Dinh Provincial People’s Committee decided to establish Binh Dinh Traditional Martial Arts Center in order to create all legal conditions for the exchange of traditional martial arts domestically and internationally.
Up to now, Binh Dinh has about 150 martial arts masters, over 12,000 students, 177 clubs and dojos operating regularly.
