The recently issued National Power Development Plan VIII is considered a breakthrough in the energy sector as it shows Vietnam’s determination to gradually eliminate coal and gas-fired power generation and promote renewable energy to achieve the target of net zero emissions by 2050.

The National Power Development Plan VIII, which has been recently approved by the Prime Minister, aims to ensure national energy security, thus satisfying the country's socio-economic requirements in the time ahead.

VOV.VN - After nearly four years of formulation and revision, the National Power Development Plan VIII targeting energy conversion, renewable energy ecosystem development, and electricity imports and exports has been approved by the Government.

VOV.VN - Vietnam will pool all resources, both at home and abroad, to realise its net zero emissions commitments by 2050, said Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) has been told to finalise the National Power Development Plan VIII (PDP VIII) for 2021-2030 with a vision to 2045, focusing on reducing coal power plants.
