VOV.VN - The Vietnam National Authority of Tourism has stated that the development capacity index of the Vietnamese tourism industry set out in the World Economic Forum (WEF)’s latest report was not accurate, while seeking measures to improve its global ranking moving forward.

The tourism sector served about 8 million tourists during the five-days holiday from April 27 to May 1, up 14.2% year on year, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has reported.

The tourism sector is striving to maintain the growth momentum recorded in the first quarter so as to fulfil the target of serving 18 million foreign visitors this year, given a full recovery in most of Vietnam’s markets.

In the wake of an impressive recovery in 2023, the tourism sector in the northern border province of Lao Cai is on a transformative journey, unveiling novel experiences and products as it sets its sights on the ambitious goal of hosting 8.5 million visitors this year.

The total number of international tourists in 2023 is estimated at 12.5 million, meeting the target of 12.5-13 million international arrivals, it was reported at a workshop on management of the tourism sector in the new situation held by the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT) in Hanoi on December 21.

The upcoming New Year holiday from December 30, 2023 to January 1, 2024 is expected to be a good start for the tourism industry, with localities, travel agents and accommodation establishments making thorough preparations to anticipate increasing travel demands.

Vietnam’s total revenue from tourists is estimated at VND582.6 trillion (US$23.7 billion) in the first ten months of 2023, according to the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism.

Amid a rising trend of green and sustainable tourism after the COVID-19 pandemic, Vietnam is advised to design a strategy and measures to promote green tourism development and better meet tourists’ demands.

Vietnam’s tourism sector is working hard to attract more tourists from Muslim countries (Halal tourists) which is seen as a potential market for the global tourism industry.

Vietnam's tourism industry could achieve its goal of welcoming 12-13 million visitors by the end of this year, Deputy General Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) Pham Van Thuy told a regular press conference of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in Hanoi on October 9.
