Acting FM Le Hoai Trung meets ASEAN and Timor-Leste diplomats in Hanoi
VOV.VN - Acting Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung on September 11 received ambassadors and chargés d’affaires from ASEAN member states and Timor-Leste in Hanoi, who extended their congratulations on his appointment as Acting Foreign Minister of Vietnam.

On behalf of the ASEAN and Timor-Leste diplomatic corps, Malaysian Ambassador Dato’ Tan Yang Thai, representing the ASEAN Chair for 2025, conveyed warm congratulations and personal regards from the Malaysian Foreign Minister and other Southeast Asian counterparts.
Trung expressed his pleasure at meeting ASEAN and Timor-Leste envoys for the first time in his new capacity, thanked them for their kind wishes, and reaffirmed that Southeast Asia remains a family of close and trusted neighbors for Vietnam.
He shared with them Vietnam’s recent socio-economic achievements, improvements in people’s living standards, and future development directions, particularly in politics and foreign relations.
Congratulating Malaysia on assuming the ASEAN Chairmanship for 2025, the Vietnamese diplomat praised its leadership in advancing key initiatives, including the adoption of ASEAN Vision 2045, four strategic plans, and other practical measures. He voiced confidence that Malaysia will lead ASEAN to further success during its chairmanship year.
The Acting Foreign Minister reaffirmed that Vietnam regards ASEAN as a strategic priority in its foreign policy and is committed to working with fellow members to build a united and resilient community with a stronger global role.
Amid complex global tensions and conflicts, he laid stress on the need for ASEAN member states to maintain unity and solidarity to ensure future progress.

He also welcomed Timor-Leste’s prospective accession as a full ASEAN member, while affirming Vietnam’s readiness to support its effective participation and integration with the bloc’s development.
Trung expressed hope that ASEAN and Timor-Leste envoys would continue to serve as vital bridges, contributing to stronger friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and regional partners, and to building ASEAN into a united community at the heart of peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific and Indian Ocean regions.
Ambassadors and chargés d’affaires highlighted Vietnam’s key role in strengthening ASEAN’s solidarity and centrality, as well as shaping the bloc’s post-2025 vision. They voiced confidence that under Trung’s leadership, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will achieve greater successes in promoting Vietnam’s foreign policy and raising the nation’s standing in the region and in the international arena.
