Vovinam fighters compete at national tourney ahead of World Championships
VOV.VN - The National Traditional Martial Arts (Vovinam) Championships 2025 opened in southern Vinh Long province on September 10 to select the best athletes to represent Vietnam at the 2025 Vovinam World Championships, due to take place in Bali, Indonesia, from November 1 to 10.

The national tournament has drawn the participation of 350 martial artists from 22 Vovinam teams across the country. They compete for 48 sets of medals in 22 performance and 26 combat weight categories. Combat divisions range from 45kg to over 92kg for men and from 42kg to over 75kg for women.
The championships aim to create a venue for Vovinam coaches and athletes to exchange experience, thus improving their skills and techniques. It is also an opportunity to identify outstanding athletes for the national Vovinam team to attend major tournaments in the region and the world in the coming time, including Vovinam World Championships 2025 in Indonesia this November.
“The national championships bring together top athletes across all categories. The performances of key contenders here will be the basis for selecting the lineup to compete at the 2025 World Championships,” said Ngo Ba Huy, head of Vovinam under the Vietnam Sports Administration and Vice President of the Vietnam Vovinam Federation.
Vietnam is expected to send fighters to 10 combat and 22 performance competitions at the coming world tournament.
Founded in the 1930s, Vovinam is developed based on the principle of combining ‘hard’ and ‘soft’. It is not only about training the body, but also the mind.
Vovinam has spread widely to the world with more than two million practitioners in nearly 70 countries and territories around the world.
