Can Tho pushes for stronger US cooperation in healthcare and education
VOV.VN - Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee Do Thanh Binh has expressed the city’s wish to expand cooperation with the US in healthcare, education, investment, and high-tech development.

US Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Melissa A. Brown on September 11 led a delegation to have a working sesssion with leaders of Can Tho City’s Party Committee and its municipal People’s Committee.
Consul General Brown expressed her impression during the visit, congratulating Can Tho on the successful consolidation of its administrative units and the establishment of a two-tier local government. She said she hope to see more US products reach Vietnam, including Can Tho, in the future.
Brown also acknowledged the valued cooperation between Can Tho and the US in various fields, particularly education, training, and healthcare, which contribute to strengthening global health security.
Do Thanh Binh, Secretary of the Can Tho municipal Party Committee, stressed that in terms of investment cooperation, many US non-governmental organizations and foundations have actively provided scholarships for students, supplied medical equipment, and delivered humanitarian support to children and the elderly, making practical contributions to local social welfare.
He said that there are several ongoing projects with US partners, including community-based comprehensive eye care at the Eye-Odonto-Stomatology Hospital, the Cardiovascular Hospital, and the Can Tho General Hospital. The city hopes these programs will continue soon, helping to improve healthcare quality and services for local residents.
The municipal leader also expressed a desire to step up cooperation with US partners in trade, investment, healthcare, education, and human resource development; as well as to boost cooperation in technology transfer and innovation regarding priority sectors such as biotechnology, hi-tech agriculture, innovation and inventions, mechanical engineering, environmental technology for climate change response, high-tech medical diagnostics, clean energy, semiconductors, and digital transformation.
The city has so far received four direct investment projects from the US with a total registered capital of more than US$6.5 million, spanning vegetable oil processing, international trade, and the production of jewelry and food products. Can Tho’s health sector has also partnered with US organizations MEET and IPSAC to exchange expertise in obstetrics and gynecology, pediatric surgery, oncology, tuberculosis, and respiratory disease treatment. These positive developments demonstrate the interest of US investors in Can Tho’s growth potential.
