UN Women Vietnam and the Embassy of Japan on August 2 announced a one-year project to reduce the risks and negative impacts of COVID-19 on women and girls.

A training course is being held for the first time in Vietnam to strengthen capacity on prevention of violence against women based on “Respect Women” framework and foster the development of an effective gender-based violence prevention strategies in the future.

More than 150 delegates from ministries, international organisations, research institutions, business associations, enterprises, and women entrepreneurs nationwide shared experience and called for initiatives and efforts for women’s economic empowerment in Vietnam at a conference in Hanoi on May 10.

An event was co-held by the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) and the UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) in Vietnam to promote women’s roles in diplomacy in Hanoi on April 25.

According to the World Economic Forum’s rankings, Vietnam's gender equality ranking has been falling since 2006, from 65th to 77th in 2018 and 87th in 2021.

The Vietnamese Government has made significant progress in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG5 on Gender Equality, said Elisa Fernandez Saenz, UN Women Representative in Vietnam.

Elisa Fernandez Saenz, Country Representative of UN Women in Vietnam, has recommended that to achieve the best effect from the policies and programmes on climate, the environment, and disaster risks, the country put women and girls at the centre of decision-making.

Challenges facing women in climate-resilient livelihood restoration after the COVID-19 pandemic drew the attention of delegates to a policy dialogue jointly held by the Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) and the UN Women in Hanoi on February 28.

An international workshop on the role of national action programmes in promoting the women, peace and security (WPS) agenda was jointly held in Hanoi on December 7 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the United Nations (UN) Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women).
