Tung Duong becomes first Vietnamese artist honoured at Music Awards Japan
VOV.VN - Renowned Vietnamese vocalist Tung Duong has won the International Special Award, marking the first time a Vietnamese singer has been recognised at Japan’s biggest international music event-the Music Awards Japan (MAJ).

Duong initially gained national fame after winning the Sao Mai Diem Hen (Morning Star Rendezvous) music contest in 2004, hosted by Vietnam Television (VTV).
The award ceremony for MAJ 2025 is slated to take place at the Rohm Theatre Kyoto on May 21–22, and will be broadcast live on Japan’s national broadcaster NHK.
Organised by the Japan Culture and Entertainment Industry Promotion Association (CEIPA), the annual event aims to celebrate musical excellence across Asia. Artists, songs, and albums are honoured in a variety of categories, including Best Song Asia, Album of the Year, and Artist of the Year.
Winners in most categories are selected by an international jury of 5,000 members from the global music industry. Notably, in March, two Vietnamese journalists from the Vietnam News Agency were invited to serve as judges in six categories, including Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Artist of the Year, New Artist of the Year, Top Global Hit from Japan, and Best Song Asia.
Earlier, organisers announced that Son Tung M-TP is the only Vietnamese artist shortlisted for the final round of the Best of Listeners' Choice: International Song category at MAJ 2025.
