Vietnamese athlete earns bronze at 2025 Asian Weightlifting Championships
VOV.VN - Vietnamese weightlifter Quang Thi Tam claimed a bronze medal in the women’s 59kg snatch event on May 11 at the ongoing 2025 Asian Weightlifting Championships in Jiangshan, China.

Tam faced stiff competition from top contenders, including Kim Il-gyong of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), Kuo Hsing-chun of Chinese Taipei, and Suratwadee Yodsarn of Thailand. She succeeded in lifting 95kg and 98kg in her first two snatch attempts, but failed to clear 100kg on her third.
Kim Il-gyong topped the snatch event with a 103kg lift. Kuo Hsing-chun was unsuccessful in two attempts at 98kg, while Suratwadee lifted 99kg, placing ahead of Tam and relegating her to third place in this category.
In the clean and jerk, Tam successfully lifted 113kg and 121kg but could not manage 124kg in her final attempt, ultimately falling short of a podium finish in the combined total.
Kuo Hsing-chun clinched third place overall with a total lift of 220kg, narrowly edging out Tam, who finished fourth with a combined total of 219kg.
Tam’s bronze comes after fellow Vietnamese athletes Lai Gia Thanh and Tran Minh Tri both secured gold medals earlier in the tournament.
Vietnam’s campaign will continue with Pham Hong Thanh set to compete in the women’s 71kg category on May 13.
