The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) is optimistic about tra fish exports this year with a substantial demand recovery in import markets.
Pangasius exports increased by 83.2% in the first half of this year, the highest growth rate among fishery products, the latest data by the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) showed.
The average price of Vietnam’s tra fish (pangasius) exported to the US increased sharply in the first quarter of this year to the highest ever level of US$4.5 per kilogramme, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

Overseas shipments of tra fish (pangasius) are expected to bring about US$1.54 billion in revenue this year, said Le Hang, deputy head of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP)’s training and promotion centre.
Aquatic exports in the first half of August were strongly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, reaching only US$263.8 million, down 41% compared to the second half of July and 30.1% from the same period in 2020.
Vietnam earned US$790 million from exporting aquatic products in May, lifting the total figure in the first five months of this year to nearly US$3.3 billion, a year-on-year rise of 14%.
Vietnam is expected to make breakthroughs in exporting aquatic products in the coming time thanks to its good performance of biological safety, and benefits brought by free trade agreements (FTAs), according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
VOV.VN - Vietnam’s tra fish (pangasius) exports during the first quarter of the year recorded an increase of 0.6% to US$336 million compared to the same period from last year, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).
Vietnam’s export turnover of aquatic products in March has been estimated at around US$640 million, bringing the total for the first quarter of the year to US$1.64 billion, up 3% year-on-year.
