A delegation of Ho Chi Minh City has learned Canada’s experience in operating a farm produce trading platform, during a recent visit to the North American country.

The more than 5 million Vietnamese people living and working in 130 countries have helped bring Vietnamese goods, especially farm produce, to the world.

The Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) sent a diplomatic note to the General Administration of Customs of China (China Customs) on June 8, calling for the early signing of a protocol on food safety and quarantine requirements for aquatic exports and imports between the two countries.

A Vietnamese delegation led by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Thanh Nam has visited and held meetings with the administrations and customs departments of China’s Guangxi and Yunnan provinces in an effort to facilitate farm produce exports via northern border gates of Vietnam.

With the ongoing recovery momentum of agro-forestry-aquatic product exports in recent months, the export turnover of the sector is expected to enjoy a rebound and achieve growth again from the fourth quarter, said Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has signed an official dispatch on the implementation of urgent measures to settle goods congestion and promote the export of farm produce through northern border gates.

Smart border gate control should be launched to prevent congestion and facilitate cross-border trade in farm products between Vietnam and China.
