Vietnam consumes 8.48 billion instant noodle packages each year

VOV.VN - The country has been named as the world’s third-largest consumer of instant noodles, purchasing approximately 8.48 billion packages in 2022, ranking only behind China and Indonesia, according to a report issued by the World Instant Noodles Association (WINA).

The nation is home to roughly 50 domestic and foreign-owned instant noodle producers and at present exports its instant products to over 40 countries globally.

The report highlights that Vietnamese instant noodle consumption in 2022 decreased slightly by 1% compared to 2021, with the country consuming 8.56 billion packages of instant noodles in 2021, marking a rise of 20% against 2020.

Last year saw China lead the way as the world's largest consumer of instant noodles with 45.07 billion packages, followed by Indonesia with 14.26 billion packages.

The others featuring in the top five include India and Japan for consuming 7.58 billion and 5.98 billion packages, respectively.

With the five main markets, namely Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Thailand, and Malaysia, the Southeast Asian region accounted for 23.5% of total demand.

Statistics compiled by the WINA show that the world’s total instant noodle consumption showed signs of recovery last year with 121.2 billion packages sold. The figures in 2020 and 2021 were only 116.56 and 118.18 billion packages, respectively, largely due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

WINA attributed the recovery to the wider range of products available for customers to choose from, with the instant noodle market showing a rebound, albeit quite slowly. This is a common trend in the world market as packaged noodle consumption is falling in general.
