VOV.VN - The Ministry of Information and Communications plans to stop providing 2G services by September 2024 at the latest to pave the way for 5G services.
VOV.VN - An online seminar titled “Getting 5G ready for Vietnam’s digital transformation” was held by Vietnam Investment Review (VIR) on April 4 as part of efforts to discuss issues on 5G commercialization to promote local digital transformation.
The 5G services are projected to contribute 7.34% to Vietnam’s GDP growth in 2025, according to a research by the National Institute of Information and Communications Strategy.
Many provinces have requested the Ministry of Information and Communications to direct corporations to urgently assess the demand, feasibility, and investment efficiency to deploy 5G coverage in their provinces.
Since the sixth-generation (6G) commercial network is expected to be introduced in 2030, Vietnam should launch further research and development work for the 6G wireless network right now, even though it has only recently rolled out 5G services on a trial basis, according to an industry insider.
The production and import of phones using 2G and 3G technology will stop from the beginning of July, according to a new circular from the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC).
