Vietnam Airlines to purchase additional 50 narrow-body aircraft
VOV.VN - Vietnam Airlines, the national flag carrier, has unveiled plans to purchase an additional 50 narrow-body aircraft, either Airbus A320NEO or Boeing B737MAX, with a total investment exceeding VND92 trillion (US$3.69 billion).
The Ministry of Finance has issued an official dispatch to Vietnam Airlines, providing guidance on procedures and investment policies for the carrier’s project to invest in 50 narrow-body aircraft.
According to the airline, the project will play a pivotal role in helping the carrier achieve its goals and strategic vision as the national airline during the recovery and sustainable development phase.
Vietnam Airlines plans to sell and lease back the first 25 aircraft to be delivered between 2028 and 2030. For the remaining 25 aircraft, expected between 2030 and 2031, the carrier will utilize equity capital and loans to alleviate cash flow pressure.
By the end of the year, Vietnam Airlines' demand for wide-body and narrow-body aircraft will stand at 31 and 54, respectively.
The carrier’s total aircraft demand by 2035 will reach 169, including 52 wide-body aircraft, 112 narrow-body aircraft, and five ATR72 aircraft.
