VOV.VN - Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake will pay a State visit to Vietnam and attend the United Nations Day of Vesak from May 4 to May 6, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on May 1.

The 20th United Nations Day of Vesak Celebrations (Vesak 2025), scheduled to take place in Ho Chi Minh City from May 6-8, emphasises the role of Buddhist principles in promoting peace and sustainable development globally, heard a press conference held by Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)'s Executive Council in Hanoi on April 22.

The 20th United Nations Day of Vesak Celebrations in Ho Chi Minh City from May 6-8 will feature a wide range of cultural, spiritual, and academic activities, according to Most Venerable Thich Duc Thien, vice president and general secretary of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Executive Council.

The International Council for the Day of Vesak (ICDV) and the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) convened their second meeting in Ho Chi Minh City on February 26 to discuss preparations for the United Nations Day of Vesak 2025 (UNDV).

The United Nations Day of Vesak 2025 in Vietnam is expected to attract around 2,000 participants, including 1,000 international delegates from 80 countries.

The UN Day of Vesak was celebrated at Tran Quoc Pagoda in Hanoi on May 25, or the seventh day of the fourth lunar month, with the joint effort of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS), the Hanoi chapter of the Vietnam-India Friendship Association, and the Indian Embassy.
