Remains of 16 Vietnamese martyrs repatriated from Laos
VOV.VN - A handover and repatriation ceremony for the remains of 16 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who laid down their lives in Attapeu and Champasak provinces took place on May 7 in Champasak province, Laos.
During the ceremony, delegates solemnly offered flowers and incense in commemoration of the martyrs, expressing deep gratitude and respect for their heroic sacrifice in the noble spirit of international duty and for the revolutionary cause of the homeland.
After months of active verification, search and exhumation during the 2024–2025 dry season, with the support of the Party committees, authorities, armed forces, and people of Attapeu, Champasak, and Sekong provinces, the search and collection team under the Special Task Committee of Kon Tum province successfully recovered the remains of 16 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who perished in southern Laos.

The search and repatriation of martyrs' remains is a sacred mission, reflecting the tradition of "drinking water, remembering the source", and demonstrating deep gratitude, reverence, and remembrance of the tremendous contributions made by the fallen heroes.
It also meets the aspirations of the martyrs’ families and the people of Vietnam, contributing to the education of revolutionary and patriotic traditions, especially among the younger generations in both countries, and reaffirming the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, States, and peoples of Vietnam and Laos.

Following the handover and farewell ceremony, the remains of the 16 martyrs were brought back to Vietnam by the Special Task Committee of Kon Tum province for memorial and burial service in their homeland.
