A ceremony was held in the northern province of Tuyen Quang’s Yen Son district on October 25 afternoon to launch the first export batch of almost 8,000 Soi Ha pomelos to the UK.

The Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency (APQA) of the Republic of Korea (RoK) has officially announced regulations for importing fresh pomelos from Vietnam on its website, according to the Plant Protection Department (PPD) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).

The first batch of “Dien” pomelos weighing 16 tonnes, part of an order of 48 tonnes, from Luong Son district, the northern province of Hoa Binh, was exported to the US on December 5.

The export of Vietnamese goods to the United Kingdom (UK) is currently facing several challenges, attributed to both unfavourable international conditions and shifts in the UK’s trade and economic policies.

Agriculture remains a bright spot in the overall gloomy export picture in the first five months of this year, with agro-forestry-aquaculture export turnover in May rising 9.5% month-on-month and 8.5% year-on-year to reach US$2.9 billion.

Vietnamese pomelo has large potential for entering deanding markets including the US, the EU and Japan, according to the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency.

Many Vietnamese fruits are getting final negotiation steps done to enter new markets, with passion fruit approved by China and green-skin pomelo on the way to the US.
