Vietnam Airlines launches Hanoi – Milan direct flight service
VOV.VN - Vietnam Airlines on July 1 inaugurated its direct air route between Hanoi and Milan, marking the first-ever direct air link between Vietnam and Italy.

Flight VN73, carrying 155 passengers from Hanoi, landed safely at Milan Malpensa International Airport at 7:40 AM (local time), opening a new chapter in bilateral aviation connectivity.
The return flight, VN72, departed Milan five hours later and is scheduled to land safely at Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport on July 2 morning, completing the inaugural round-trip journey and officially launching the direct route.
Operated with the wide-body Boeing 787 Dreamliner, the Hanoi–Milan route will run three round-trip flights per week on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, with a flight duration of approximately 12 hours each way.
This is Vietnam Airlines’ 10th direct route to Europe, aiming to expand its market presence and boost two-way passenger traffic, especially to Milan which is Italy’s second largest economic hub and a vital gateway to southwestern Europe.
This new route not only shortens the geographical distance but also opens significant opportunities for tourism and economic exchange between Vietnam and Italy, a promising European market, said Dang Ngoc Hoa, chairman of Vietnam Airlines’ Board of Directors.
According to the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism, Italy ranked among the top 10 fastest growing source markets in 2024, with the number of Italian visitors to Vietnam increasing by 155% compared to 2023. The direct flight eliminates the need for third-country layovers, improving travel experience and paving the way for a surge in Italian tourist arrivals in the years ahead.
With this new route, passengers from Vietnam can easily set foot on the “land of great heritage,” exploring culturally rich Italian cities such as Rome, Florence, and Venice, and immersing themselves in Italy’s artistic treasures. Conversely, Italian travellers will have more opportunities to experience Vietnam’s iconic destinations like Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, Hue, Hoi An, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City, thanks to the fast and convenient journey.
