More cold air waves expected in March, temperatures lower than usual

VOV.VN - From now until the end of March, cold air will be more active than the average of previous years in March, causing temperatures to be about 0.5 to 1°C lower than usual, according to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.

Due to the weakening and eastward deviation of the cold air mass, from now until March 15, fog and light drizzle will be the dominant weather patterns in northern Vietnam. Temperatures will gradually rise to around 22-24°C, or even higher in the Northwestern region.

However, temperatures in Northern Vietnam will drop by 7-8°C from March 16 when a new cold air wave hits the country, bringing colder weather.

The northern border provinces of Cao Bang and Lang Son will be the first to be affected, with temperatures anticipated to drop by 8-9°C compared to previous days to around 11-12°C.

In the capital city of Hanoi, temperatures will decrease by about 5-6°C to around 15-16°C.

The cold air will then spread across the north-central provinces such as Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, Thai Binh, and Ha Nam, with temperatures dropping by 6 to approximately 14°C.

The cold air is expected to last through to March 20.

Throughout March, the average temperature in the Northern, north-eastern and central regions will be 0.5-1°C lower than the multi-year average for the same period, while other areas will generally remain close to the multi-year average.

From now until the end of March, meteorologists say, cold air will be stronger than usual. However, due to the continental cold high-pressure system shifting eastward, northeastern and north-central Vietnam will experience many days of light rain, drizzle, and fog.

By April, cold air is expected to weaken gradually.

Humid weather to soon return as cold front weakens

VOV.VN - The ongoing cold air will gradually retreat in the coming days, allowing Southeast winds to bring high humidity from the sea inland and make the weather damper in Northern Vietnam, according to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.
