Cold air to intensify in the north, bitter and wet weather to set in
VOV.VN - Another fairly strong cold spell is forecast to affect the northern region of Vietnam around February 22 that will result in continued rain and prolonged cold weather in the following days, according to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.

In recent days, the weather in the North has experienced light rain, drizzle, and fog due to the influence of a weak, eastward-leaning cold air combined with a jet stream in the upper westerly wind zone.
Light rain and fog in the northeastern region mainly occur at night and in the early morning. By noon, the rain decreases, but the sky remains cloudy and gloomy. In contrast, the northwestern region experiences sunshine in the afternoon.
This weather pattern is expected to continue affecting northern Vietnam for the next two days. In Hanoi and other northern provinces, nighttime and early morning temperatures will range from 14-17°C, while the temperatures in higher mountainous areas may drop below 13°C.
The weather will remain cold, with some mountainous localities enduring severe cold and frost.
Meteorologists say the ongoing humid weather in Hanoi and northeastern provinces is likely to persist until the end of this week before a fairly strong cold air mass will move in that will potentially reduce the humid conditions.
Due to the influence of this cold air, northern and north-central regions will experience scattered rain and drizzle from February 22 to 24. On February 25 and 26, there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms.
The mountainous and midland areas of northern Vietnam will endure severe cold, with some places facing extreme cold conditions.
The meteorological agency predicts that the cloudy weather with light rain in northern localities is likely to persist until around February 26.
