At the trial, which began on May 18, the Military Court of the Vietnam People’s Navy gave Hien the prison term for “lack of responsibility causing serious consequences.”

Meanwhile, Dinh Ngoc He, Deputy Director General of the Thai Son Corporation under the Ministry of National Defence, and Chairman and General Director of the Thai Son Development and Investment JSC, was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Taking into account his previous sentences, he will have to serve a total of 30 years.

Other defendants were given prison terms from 4 to 15 years.

The judging council said the acts of the defendants resulted in the Navy losing the management right of three land lots in Ho Chi Minh City with total value of more than VND939 billion.

At its 12th plenum last week, the Party Central Committee considered and decided upon a disciplinary measure against Hien - expelling him from the Party.
