Vietnam expects to receive support and cooperation from Myanmar

VOV.VN - As Vietnam is undertaking the role of the ASEAN Chair 2020 and a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2020-2021 tenure, the country expects support and cooperation from Myanmar, Vietnamese Ambassador to Myanmar Ly Quoc Tuan has said.

During his courtesy visit to State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi in Nay Pyi Taw on February 7, the Vietnamese diplomat conveyed greetings and regards from Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan to the Myanmar leader.

He voiced his hope for support and assistance from the Myanmar side to fulfil his tasks as a way of helping reinforce bilateral relations of friendship and cooperation.

For her part, State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi highlighted Vietnam as an example of development in the region and her country should learn from Vietnam’s experience in this regard.

Vietnam is a close friend of Myanmar and the latter has always been supporting Vietnam and will continue its close coordination with the country, she said, while wishing Vietnam great success in its positions of ASEAN Chair and UNSC non-permanent member.

The leader also greatly valued the ASEAN’s central role in maintaining peace and stability in the region and emphasized that the traditional relations of friendship and cooperation between the two nations helps the regional bloc perform this role.
