Vietnam welcomes record number of foreign visitors in January 2026

VOV.VN - Vietnam welcomed nearly 2.5 million foreign visitors in January 2026, the highest monthly figure on record, driven by visa reform and stronger tourism promotion.

Vietnam recorded its highest-ever number of international arrivals in a single month in January, continuing a strong post-pandemic tourism recovery, official data showed.

According to the National Statistics Office, nearly 2.5 million foreign visitors arrived in Vietnam in January, up 21.4% from the previous month and 18.5% year on year.

Arrivals by air accounted for more than 1.9 million, rising 8.8%, while cruise ship arrivals reached 58,500, up 30%. The number of visitors entering Vietnam by land surged 92.9% to 440,700.

Asia remained Vietnam’s largest source market with more than 1.8 million visitors, up 12.3%. Arrivals from Europe rose 59% to 424,000, the fastest growth among major regions. Visitors from the Americas, Oceania and Africa increased 14.2%, 13% and 45.4%, respectively.

The statistics agency said visa policy reform, stronger tourism promotion and more diversified tourism products were key factors driving the increase.

Vietnam aims to attract 25 million international visitors in 2026, serve 150 million domestic tourists and generate about VND1.125 quadrillion (US$46.5 billion) in tourism revenue.
