International arrivals to Phu Quoc hit record growth in January
VOV.VN - International visitor arrivals to Phu Quoc Special Zone in An Giang province rose strongly, underscoring the island’s growing appeal as an international tourism destination.
Leaders of the Department of Tourism of An Giang province said on February 5 that Phu Quoc is estimated to have welcomed 278,347 international visitors in January 2026, up 122.9% year-on-year and equivalent to 13.8% of the island’s annual target.
Meanwhile, officials at Phu Quoc International Airport forecast strong growth in flight operations and passenger volume during the Lunar New Year holiday, particularly during peak travel periods.
According to airline operating plans, the total number of flights during the 2026 Lunar New Year or Tet is expected to rise by around 50% compared with the 2025 holiday, averaging about 75 flights per day.
On peak days, the number could reach 80-84 flights daily, with international routes accounting for roughly half. Passenger traffic is projected to exceed 720,000 travelers, with both domestic and international segments posting strong increases.
To meet rising travel demand during the holiday period, Bui Quoc Thai, Director of the provincial Department of Tourism, said relevant units will coordinate to deploy staff to assist visitors and promptly address feedback and complaints.
Accommodation providers have also been required to strictly comply with price listing regulations, publicly disclose service charges and avoid price inflation or overcharging.
The tourism department will also establish inter-agency inspection teams to monitor newly opened accommodation facilities lacking legal requirements, illegal travel service providers and unauthorised foreign tour guides.
According to Nguyen Thi Kim Loan, Vice Chairwoman of the Phu Quoc administration, the island currently has more than 24,000 standard accommodation rooms, including over 13,000 high-quality rooms serving international visitors. Local authorities are encouraging service quality improvements to meet international tourism standards.
