Vietnam boosts cooperation with UN Tourism for sustainable development
VOV.VN - During his trip to Spain for the World Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development, Vietnamese Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung paid a working visit to the World Tourism Organisation (UN Tourism) to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

Receiving the Vietnamese delegation, Beka Jakeli, Director of External Relations at UN Tourism, highly appreciated Vietnam’s active and responsible participation since joining the organisation in 1981. He also praised Vietnam’s successful hosting of two major UN Tourism events in December 2024, namely the second Annual Meeting of the Best Tourism Villages and the first International Conference on Tourism for Rural Development.
For his part, Hung emphasised Vietnam’s commitment to deepening cooperation with UN Tourism in a more practical and effective manner. Key areas for future collaboration, he said, include rural tourism, health and wellness tourism, tourism promotion, digital transformation, and sustainable tourism development.
He also shared Vietnam’s experience with the Trang An Landscape Complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as a model for integrating culture and tourism in pursuit of the United Nations' 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. This model has drawn interest from international partners seeking to apply it in their own countries.
The UN Tourism representative extended invitations to Minister Hung to attend the third Annual Meeting of the Best Tourism Villages Network in Huzhou, China, on October 17–18, 2025, and the 26th General Assembly of UN Tourism, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from November 7–11.
Hung expressed sincere thanks for UN Tourism’s continued support for Vietnam's tourism development. He confirmed that the Ministry's leadership would attend these events and affirmed Vietnam’s determination to position tourism as a spearhead economic sector, with a goal of welcoming 22–23 million international visitors in 2025.
