Hanoi ramps up efforts to attract high-spending international visitors

VOV.VN - Hanoi is targeting higher-spending international visitors through a broad array of tourism promotion and business connectivity activities, with Japan identified as one of the capital’s key tourism markets.

From May 25-29, the Hanoi Department of Tourism, in coordination with localities and tourism businesses, hosted a famtrip delegation of 28 Japanese travel operators for tourism surveys and business networking activities in Hanoi, Ninh Binh and Quang Ninh.

The participating firms, capable of bringing visitors from major Japanese localities such as Tokyo, Osaka, Fukuoka, Kansai and Hyogo, are expected to help expand the flow of Japanese tourists to Vietnam in the coming period.

According to the Hanoi Department of Tourism, famtrip programmes are increasingly viewed not simply as promotional activities but as opportunities for international partners to directly experience and assess the service quality and tourism capacity of destinations.

During their stay in Hanoi, the Japanese businesses explored a range of tourism products, including West Lake lotus tea-making, night tours of the Temple of Literature, double-decker bus city tours, pottery-making experiences, sightseeing aboard the “5 Cửa Ô” heritage train and cyclo tours, alongside high-standard accommodation and culinary services.

These tourism products reflect Hanoi’s orientation towards enhancing cultural experiences, extending visitor stays and increasing spending by international tourists.

A key highlight of the programme was a B2B tourism exchange held in Hanoi on May 28 between Japanese and Vietnamese tourism businesses to discuss products, develop tour routes and explore long-term cooperation opportunities.

The famtrip programme also adopted an inter-regional experience approach instead of promoting destinations individually.

During the five-day programme, the Japanese delegation toured and experienced a range of high-quality tourism products and services in Hanoi, Ninh Binh and Quang Ninh.

In Ninh Binh, the delegation visited Kenh Ga Minawa hot spring resort, the Pullman hotel, the Trang An eco-tourism complex and the ancient capital of Hoa Lu.

In Quang Ninh, the group explored Ha Long Bay, while Hanoi served as a gateway where visitors could experience the capital’s cultural depth, heritage and distinctive urban life.

During the five-month period of 2026, Hanoi welcomed an estimated 15 million tourist arrivals, up more than 17% year-on-year. International arrivals reached around 4 million, an increase of more than 28%, while tourism revenue was estimated at VND62.77 trillion, up more than 20%.

The continued hosting of international famtrip delegations in recent months underscores Hanoi’s more proactive tourism promotion efforts to improve visitor experiences and attract higher-value international tourist flows.
