Da Nang welcomes first Kazakhstan charter flight, boosts Russia–CIS tourism
VOV.VN - A flight coded VJ55 from Astana, Kazakhstan, landed at Da Nang International Airport on April 13, marking a new step in efforts to expand air connectivity between Vietnam and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), including Russia and neighbouring markets.
The flight, jointly operated by Crystal Bay Group and VietJet Air, carried 370 passengers, including more than 250 travel partners from CIS markets who are conducting a familiarization trip to explore tourism services in Da Nang.
A welcoming ceremony was held at Terminal 2 of Da Nang International Airport, featuring traditional performances, flower presentations and souvenirs for the inaugural visitors.
As part of the expanded connectivity plan for 2026, Da Nang is expected to receive additional flights from Russia and CIS destinations. On April 16, flight VJ7989 from Vladivostok, organised by Anex Vietnam Trading and Tourism Company, is scheduled to bring 220 Russian tourists to the central Vietnamese city.
Further promotional activities will follow on April 17–18, when the Da Nang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism will host business networking sessions, allowing local service providers to directly engage and sign cooperation agreements with international partners.
In the context of fluctuations in several traditional international tourism markets, Da Nang has identified Russia and CIS countries as strategic sources of high-potential visitors with strong spending capacity and longer stays. In the first three months of 2026, the city welcomed approximately 2.3 million international arrivals, of which Russian and CIS visitors accounted for more than 100,000, or around 4% of the total.
Looking ahead, Da Nang plans to expand air routes connecting the city with major destinations across Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Belarus, and Russia’s Far Eastern regions. This expansion is expected to diversify international tourist sources and strengthen Da Nang’s position as one of Asia–Pacific’s leading coastal destinations.
According to Tan Van Vuong, deputy director of the Da Nang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the city has actively promoted its tourism offerings in these markets while preparing service capacity in advance.
Local tourism associations have also organised training programmes for hotels, tour operators and guides to better serve CIS visitors, including improvements in service quality, cuisine adaptation and operational readiness.
