Charter flights from Mongolia to bring winter tourists to Vietnam

VOV.VN - A series of charter flights from Mongolia is expected to bring thousands of international tourists to Vietnam’s beach destinations of Phu Quoc and Nha Trang during the 2025–2026 winter tourism season, as travellers seek warmer climates.

The charter programme officially began on December 15, 2025, and will run until the end of February 2026. Flights are operating from Ulaanbaatar to Phu Quoc, run by Hunnu Air (Mongolia), and to Nha Trang’s Cam Ranh Airport, by Vietjet Air (Vietnam). On December 15, Aero Mongolia launched a direct flight from Ulaanbaatar to Hanoi.

Tourism operators specialising in the Mongolian market said that, alongside regular scheduled services, the charter flights will deliver a significant influx of visitors to Vietnam’s central and southern coastal destinations during the peak winter travel period.

Zundui, chairman of Mongolia’s Cruise Tour agency, said that his company alone plans to bring about 6,000 Mongolian tourists to Phu Quoc and Nha Trang by the end of February 2026. Phu Quoc is set to receive two to three charter flights per week, while Nha Trang will welcome one weekly charter flight, with additional services expected during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

Phu Quoc alone is projected to welcome around 40 flights from Ulaanbaatar during this period. The destination, in particular, has emerged as a favourite winter escape for Mongolian tourists, thanks to its warm climate, natural scenery and well-developed leisure and resort infrastructure, catering to both independent travellers and package tours.

Since Vietnam’s tourism industry recovered following the COVID-19 pandemic, Cruise Tour has organised approximately 135 charter flights from Mongolia to Phu Quoc. Industry representatives said the success of charter operations, combined with new direct routes linking Ulaanbaatar with Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, as well as Vietnam’s visa exemption policy, is helping to boost two-way tourism between the two countries.

Nguyen Van Quynh, Director of Adonis Blue Co., Ltd. (AB Travel), shared that Vietnam’s tourism image has gained strong visibility in Mongolia, supported by effective promotion from the Vietnamese Embassy in Mongolia, airlines and tourism businesses.

Businesses from both countries have stepped up cooperation through joint promotions, the launch of direct flights and the development of tailored tour packages. Popular destinations for Mongolian travellers include Phu Quoc, Nha Trang, Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, with improved accessibility provided by airlines such as MIAT Mongolian Airlines, Hunnu Air, Aero Mongolia and Vietjet Air.
