Exports of wood and forestry products hit US$8.71 billion in the first half of this year, according to the Vietnam Administration of Forestry.

It is forecast that the total export turnover of wood and forestry products for the whole year will reach US$15.5 billion, a year-on-year increase of 17%.

The export turnover of wood and wood products hit US$4.99 billion in the first four months of 2021, a surge of 50.5% year-on-year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural development.

Vietnam’s exports to the US surged 50.1% in the first four months of this year, reaching US$30.3 billion, making the latter the largest export market of the former, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has reported.

Easing the associated risks in the importation of tropical timber would help Vietnam maintain its wood exports while expanding the market, a recent workshop heard.

Vietnam earned about US$1.52 billion from wood and forestry exports in March, raising the value in the first three months of this year to over US$3.94 billion, up 41.5% year-on-year.

Vietnam should develop a generation of young entrepreneurs in the timber industry, and consider it a sector for startups, said President of the Handicraft and Wood Industry Association (HAWA) of HCM City Nguyen Quoc Khanh.
