VOV.VN - Taking advantage of the Government’s policy of religious freedom, an outlawed organisation called Duong Van Minh belief has carried out many illegal activities, enticing thousands of Mong ethnic people into the group and causing chaos to life in northern mountainous provinces.

Throughout the “Doi moi” process, the belief and religious life in Vietnam has changed towards greater freedom and progress and the right to belief and religious freedom better protected, which has been recognised by the international community.

VOV.VN - The US Department of State released last month its 2020 International Religious Freedom Report which stated that some religious groups in Vietnam are not recognized by the State and are bothered, intervened, or restricted by local authorities.

VOV.VN - Taking unfair advantage of religion to further political activities, boosting those aiming to overthrow the Government, and actions which threaten unity should not be tolerated by any country, not just in Vietnam.

Vietnam always respects and consistently implements a policy of ensuring citizens’ right to freedom of religion and belief and to follow or not follow a religion.

President Nguyen Xuan Phuc has affirmed that the State always respects people’s right to belief and religious freedom, which is protected by the law.

VOV.VN - Despite its acknowledgement, the United States’ 2021 annual report on religious freedom is yet to assess the situation in Vietnam in an objective manner, said Doan Khac Viet, deputy spokesperson for the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
