Vietnam and China are negotiating to develop phytosanitary protocols for eight kinds of Vietnamese fruits exported to China.

The New Zealand Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City and the country’s fruit exporters on July 6 presented 500 fruit boxes for charitable organisations for children and women in the city and Hanoi.

The General Administration of Customs (GAC) of China has just approved the pilot import of Vietnamese passion fruits from July 1, according to the Vietnam Sanitary and Phytosanitary Notification Authority and Enquiry Point (SPS Vietnam).

Many Vietnamese fruits are getting final negotiation steps done to enter new markets, with passion fruit approved by China and green-skin pomelo on the way to the US.

Vietnam has great potential to increase fruit exports to the US in the future, said Hoang Trung, director of the Plant Protection Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Demand for Vietnamese dragon fruit in foreign markets is increasing, with many importers interested in high-quality fruit from Vietnam.

As fruit and vegetable exports to China face difficulties, many Vietnamese enterprises have spent hundreds of millions of dollars to invest in systems and processing plants to sell their products in Europe and the US.

China is no longer an easy market and if Vietnamese businesses don’t change their business strategies, it will be more difficult to enter the huge market.
