Women volleyball team leave for World Championship in Thailand

VOV.VN - The Vietnamese women’s volleyball team left Hanoi for Phuket, Thailand, on August 20, to compete in the FIVB Women’s World Championship 2025 without star player Bich Tuyen, following her withdrawal from the squad due to concerns over the strict requirements set by the International Volleyball Federation.

In her letter to the team, Bich Tuyen stated that this was a carefully considered decision, which has received respect and understanding from the coaching staff as well as the Volleyball Federation of Vietnam.

“The reason I made this decision is not because of a lack of competitive ambition, but because of the new requirements from the International Volleyball Federation regarding athletes’ playing conditions,” she explained.

“I will use this time to focus on training, preparing for future tournaments. I believe that with the best possible preparation, the Vietnamese team will continue to fight with determination and achieve new successes,” she wrote.

In a friendly match against Kenya on August 19, Vietnam played without Bich Tuyen. The players gave their all and secured an emphatic 4-0 victory.

The FIVB Women’s World Championship 2025 features 32 national teams, divided into eight groups. Teams will play in a round-robin format, with the top two from each group advancing to the Round of 16.

Vietnam have been placed in Group G alongside Poland (World No. 3), Germany (World No. 11), and Kenya (World No. 22). According to the schedule, Vietnam will play Poland on August 23, Germany on August 25, and Kenya on August 27.

This marks the first time in history that the Vietnamese women’s volleyball team have qualified for the World Championship, offering them a valuable opportunity to compete on the global stage, gain experience against world-class teams, and further develop their skills.

After returning from Thailand, the team will take a short break before resuming training in October to prepare for the 33rd SEA Games to be held in Thailand this December.
