VFV files complaint after FIVB eliminates Vietnam from knockout stage
VOV.VN - The Volleyball Federation of Vietnam (VFV) has announced that it is filing a formal complaint with the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) following its decision to disqualify Vietnam from the Round of 16 at the ongoing FIVB Women's U21 World Championship in Indonesia.

The FIVB decision was made due to suspicions that one of the Vietnamese players had violated eligibility rules.
During the group stage, Vietnam performed impressively, winning 4 out of 5 matches and finishing second in Group A. According to the rules, Vietnam were set to face Turkey, who placed third in Group C, in the Round of 16.
However, on the evening of August 12, FIVB ruled that a Vietnamese player was ineligible but had played in the first four matches. As a result, the results of those four matches were annulled, and Vietnam were handed 0-3 losses for all.
Only the final group stage match against Puerto Rico, in which the player in question did not participate, remained valid, preserving their 3-1 victory.
FIVB has not disclosed the identity of the player nor the type of test or verification that led to this ruling.
Following this decision, Vietnam now fall to the bottom of Group A, and are scheduled to play Egypt in the classification matches for places 17 to 24.
The Volleyball Federation of Vietnam confirmed that it has fully complied with FIVB’s regulations and registration procedures, submitting complete player documentation before the tournament. These documents were reviewed and approved by FIVB, allowing the players to compete.
However, the ruling regarding the ineligible player was based on additional documentation requirements and conditions introduced by FIVB on August 12 that had never been previously communicated to the Vietnamese team.
VFV is currently pursuing an official appeal through FIVB’s established process and is working with relevant Vietnamese authorities to clarify the situation and protect the rights of the player and the reputation of Vietnamese volleyball, VFV said in its announcement.
