Vietnamese cueist Tran Quyet Chien advances to World Games semi-finals
VOV.VN - Four-time world champion Tran Quyet Chien of Vietnam on August 12 defeated his longtime opponent Jeremy Bury of France to advance to the semifinals of the 3-cushion carom billiards at the 2025 World Games currently taking place in Chengdu, China.

In the group stage, the two had previously faced each other with a tied result, and the August 12 quarterfinal clash would be an eagerly awaited game.
Unlike his earlier tough performance, the Vietnamese No1 cueist showed great improvement and returned to his true class. In a closely contested game with the score tied at 25-25, Tran Quyet Chien launched a long series to increase the lead to 35-25.
He also made many smart run shots, making it difficult for Bury to score. Thanks to his rich experience, Quyet Chien won 40-32 in the end after 22 innings.
This result helped him advance to the World Games semifinals in the carom 3-cushion billiards for the first time in his career.
His next opponent is Cho Myung-woo, currently ranked No. 2 in the world and the top player in the Republic of Korea. In the quarterfinal, Cho defeated his compatriot Heo Jung-han 40-29 after 18 innings.
The highly anticipated match for Vietnamese fans is the showdown between Trần Quyết Chiến and Cho Myung Woo. The class of Vietnam’s No. 1 cueist is unquestionable. However,
Quyet Chien will face a big challenge in the coming anticipated game as the Korean prodigy has been in excellent form recently. In less than a month and a half, the 27-year-old player has won three championship titles, at the Porto World Cup in Portugal in early July and at two national tournaments in the RoK on July 16 and August 6.
