Vietnam face Timor-Leste after opening win at ASEAN Futsal Championship
VOV.VN - Vietnam will face Timor-Leste in their second Group A match at the ongoing 2026 ASEAN Futsal Championship on April 7, following a 4-0 win over Myanmar in their opening game.
Vietnam got off to a good start at the 2026 ASEAN Futsal Championship in Thailand on April 6. Coached by Diego Giustozzi, Vietnamese players dominated possession but had to wait until the 12th minute to break the deadlock. Tran Thai Huy set up Nhan Gia Hung, who scored from close range.
Vietnam slowed the tempo late in the first half before extending their lead early after the break. Just seconds into the second half, Tu Minh Quang assisted Nguyen Da Hai to make it 2-0.
Hai added another shortly after, reacting quickest to a rebound to put Vietnam 3-0 ahead. Myanmar switched to power-play but failed to score.
Nguyen Thac Hieu sealed the result in the 27th minute with an individual effort, completing a 4-0 victory.
The result gives Vietnam a strong start in Group A. A win against Timor-Leste later on April 7 would put them close to a semi-final place ahead of their final group match against Thailand.
Another Group B match between Indonesia and Malaysia later on April 7 is also expected to play a key role in determining standings.
The tournament is getting underway in Nonthaburi, Thailand, from April 6 to 12. Group A includes Vietnam, Myanmar, Timor-Leste and Thailand, while Group B features Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia and Brunei.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals.
