Veteran Ho Van Y returns in Vietnam’s AFF futsal championship squad
VOV.VN - Vietnam have finalised their 14-player squad for the 2026 Southeast Asian Football Federation (AFF) Futsal Championship in Thailand, with head coach Diego Giustozzi opting to include experienced goalkeeper Ho Van Y in the lineup.
The decision was made following a training session on April 1. Tran Van Luong, a 2003-born goalkeeper from Saigon Titans, was the player to miss out. Despite being called up since 2025 and showing potential, he was unable to compete for a place following the return of Ho Van Y.
During the training camp, Ho Van Y impressed the coaching staff with his consistency and experience in both training sessions and friendly matches. He is expected to form a reliable goalkeeping pair with Pham Van Tu.
The squad largely retain a core of experienced players who have competed in multiple international tournaments. At the same time, several young players have been given opportunities, including Nguyen Thac Hieu, who earned his place in the final squad after making a strong impression during training.
The 2026 AFF Futsal Championship is to take place in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, from April 5-12. Drawn in group A, Vietnam are scheduled to face Myanmar on April 6, Timor-Leste on April 7, and hosts Thailand on April 8.
With a blend of experience and youth, Giustozzi’s side are expected to deliver a positive performance at the regional competition, with Ho Van Y seen as a key figure in their bid to advance deep into the tournament.
