Vietnam edge Philippines 2-0 to boost ASEAN futsal semifinal hopes
VOV.VN - Two goals from Thanh Ngan and Bien Thi Hang on February 25 secured a 2-0 win for the Vietnam over the Philippines, strengthening their chance of reaching the semifinals of the 2026 ASEAN Women’s Futsal Championship.
Vietnam struck early and managed the Group B game with composure in a result that reflected both tactical control and mental resilience at a decisive stage of the group phase.
Thanh Ngan opened the scoring in the fifth minute, cutting in from the left before finishing clinically to give Vietnam an early advantage. The goal allowed the team to dictate tempo and maintain sustained pressure through much of the first half. Although Thanh Ngan later missed a penalty that could have doubled the lead, Vietnam retained control and went into the break 1-0 ahead.
The Philippines responded strongly after halftime, creating several dangerous moments and testing Vietnam’s defensive organisation. Goalkeeper Thuy Linh delivered key saves to preserve the lead, including a crucial stop midway through the second half.
With the match still finely balanced, Bien Thi Hang sealed the victory in the 37th minute with a long-range strike that found the corner of the net, effectively ending the contest.
The win not only delivered three valuable points but also underlined Vietnam’s growing consistency and depth in regional futsal competition. With momentum on their side, Vietnam move closer to securing a semifinal berth as the tournament enters its decisive phase.
In their opening game on February 24, Vietnam suffered a 2-0 loss to Australia.
