AFC sanctions Vietnam futsal team and host Indonesia

VOV.VN - The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has announced disciplinary measures involving the Vietnam futsal team and host Indonesia at the 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Cup in Indonesia.

Under the decision, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) was fined US$2,000 for violating Article 52 of the AFC Disciplinary and Ethics Code, relating to damage to property.

The sanction followed an incident in which members of the Vietnam futsal team caused damage to the organisers’ dressing room after their 5-4 win over Kuwait on January 27.

The AFC requires the VFF to settle the fine within 30 days of the ruling. The confederation described the penalty as a warning, calling on the team to strengthen compliance with conduct and disciplinary regulations at continental tournaments.

In addition, Vietnam futsal player Duong Ngoc Linh received a one-match suspension and a US$1,000 fine after accumulating two yellow cards in the 2-0 victory over Lebanon on January 29, resulting in an indirect red card. He subsequently missed the match against Thailand on January 31.

The AFC also imposed sanctions on host nation Indonesia over multiple security and crowd-control breaches during the tournament. The Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) was fined a total of US$14,000. PSSI executive committee member Arya Sinulingga confirmed that the association would comply with the decision and would not file an appeal.

According to the AFC, the penalties stemmed from several incidents, including unauthorised individuals entering the field of play and technical areas after Indonesia’s match against the Republic of Korea (RoK) on January 27, spectators encroaching onto the pitch, inadequate safety and order when fans appeared on the playing surface, and the unauthorised entry of spectators during the match between Iran and Afghanistan on February 1.
