VOV.VN - Vietnam women’s futsal team travelled to Thailand on February 22 to compete in the 2026 ASEAN Women’s Futsal Championship, marking the country’s first major women’s football event of the Lunar Year of the Horse.

The squad recently completed a training camp in Japan, where they played two friendly matches against Bardral Urayasu Ladies Futsal Club, one of Japan’s established women’s futsal sides.

The regional championship features seven leading teams: hosts Thailand (world No. 8), defending champions Vietnam (No. 11), Indonesia (No. 18), Malaysia (No. 21), Myanmar (No. 38), Australia (No. 66) and the Philippines (No. 69).

Under the draw, Vietnam are in Group B alongside Myanmar, the Philippines and Australia. Group A consists of Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia.

As reigning Southeast Asian champions and SEA Games 33 gold medallists, Vietnam are expected to contend for the title once again.

Meanwhile, Vietnam’s national women’s football team continues training for the upcoming continental tournament, reflecting a busy start to the year for the country’s women’s programme.
