VOV.VN - Vietnam have delivered a dominant 7-1 win over Timor Leste to secure a semifinal berth at the 2026 ASEAN Futsal Championship, with the emphatic victory sending a strong warning to regional rivals Thailand ahead of a decisive group-stage clash.
Vietnam extended their impressive form with a commanding performance in their second Group A match in Thailand on April 7, overwhelming an outmatched Timor Leste side from the outset.
The team in red wasted no time asserting dominance, striking twice within the opening six minutes. Minh Quang opened the scoring in the fourth minute with a low, precise finish following a well-worked set-piece routine, before Thinh Phat doubled the lead two minutes later with a powerful long-range effort.
With an early advantage secured, Vietnam eased the tempo but maintained control of possession and sustained pressure. Defensive lapses from Timor Leste were quickly punished, as Da Hai made it 3-0 in the 13th minute. Quang Nguyen then capped off a one-sided first half with Vietnam’s fourth goal in the 19th minute.
The pattern continued after the break, with Vietnam firmly in control. Cong Vien extended the lead to 5-0 in the 26th minute with a composed finish, before Cong Dai added a stunning long-range strike just two minutes later to make it 6-0.
In search of a consolation goal, Timor Leste deployed the power play tactic midway through the second half. However, pushing forward left them exposed at the back. In the 33rd minute, Thac Hieu capitalised to score Vietnam’s seventh goal with a clinical finish.
Timor Leste managed to pull one back in the 36th minute, but it did little to alter the outcome of an otherwise one-sided contest.
The 7-1 victory gives Vietnam six points from two matches, putting them firmly on course for the semifinals. More importantly, the dominant display serves as a clear statement ahead of their final group-stage encounter against Thailand, their main rival for the top spot in Group A.
The upcoming clash is expected to determine group leadership and will serve as a crucial test for Vietnam’s title ambitions. On current form, the team will head into the match with confidence as they look to secure a positive result against one of their fiercest regional rivals.
