All-Vietnam final set at PPA Hanoi Cup 2026
VOV.VN - Two Vietnamese players, Ly Hoang Nam and Truong Vinh Hien, have advanced to the final of the PPA Asia 1000 - MB Hanoi Cup 2026 after impressive semifinal victories on April 4, setting up an all-Vietnam showdown.
In the first semifinal, Vinh Hien delivered a major upset by defeating top seed Federico Staksrud in three sets, 11-7, 4-11, 11-6. The Vietnamese player started confidently, maintaining composure and consistency to take the opening set.
Although Staksrud responded strongly in the second set, showcasing his world-class control and shot-making ability, Vinh Hien held his nerve in the third set. He capitalised on key moments to secure a landmark victory and book his place in the final.
In the other semifinal, Hoang Nam produced a dominant performance to defeat Dylan Frazier in straight sets, 11-5, 11-6. Despite facing a higher-ranked opponent, the leading Vietnamese player controlled the tempo throughout the match and executed his attacking strategy effectively.
The result sets up a highly anticipated all-Vietnam final on April 5. The match will also serve as a rematch of their previous encounter at the PPA Tour Asia MB Vietnam Cup 2025, where Vinh Hien came from behind to defeat Hoàng Nam in the semifinals.
The PPA Asia 1000 - MB Hanoi Cup 2026 marks the third time the PPA Tour Asia has been held in Vietnam, attracting a strong field of professional players from across the region. The tournament offers a total prize pool of approximately US$300,000.
