Strongest cold spell hits Northern Vietnam, temperatures drop to 13°C
VOV.VN - A strong cold air mass is moving southward and is expected to affect the Northern region on November 17, sending temperatures falling sharply to 13°C, according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
The cold is set to affect the Northeastern and North Central regions from the afternoon of November 17, before expanding to the Northwestern region, the Central coast, and parts of the South-central coast late at night and the following day, said meteorologists.
Nguyen Van Huong, head of the Weather Forecasting Department at the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, said this is the strongest cold spell since the beginning of the winter season. Moving along a north–south trajectory and combining with prolonged rainfall, the cold air mass is anticipated to cause a sharp drop in temperatures across the northern and north-central provinces.
From the night of November 17, the midland, Red River Delta, and North-central regions will experience cold weather. The Northern mountainous areas will see severe cold, with some high-altitude locations facing extreme cold.
Minimum temperatures will range from 12–15°C in the midland, delta, and North-central regions; 9–12°C in the mountains; and below 8°C in high mountainous areas.
In Hanoi, showers are expected from the afternoon and night of November 17–18. From the evening of November 17, the weather will turn cold, with the lowest temperatures ranging from 13–15°C.
From November 20, rainfall will decrease, and the weather will shift to deep cold at night and early morning, with sunshine during the day. Conditions will be favourable for frost and ice formation from November 20–23, especially in high mountainous and midland areas, though the likelihood remains low on November 18–19.
